Where and How

Air: Qantaslink, Regional Express and Airlink fly daily to Dubbo.

Coach: Coaches travel frequently between, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane,  Newcastle and Canberra.

Rail: XPT travels from Sydney daily.

 Although Western Plains Zoo is only a 5-6 hour drive from Sydney, Canberra and Newcastle, there’s so much to see and do on the way that we recommend you take it nice and slow.

This is the heart of Australia, with a big country welcome you simply don’t find in the city.

There are wineries, historic villages and pubs, dramatic scenery, attractions of all sorts for all ages – from hot air ballooning to horse riding, depending on the route you follow.

Fossick for gold near Bathurst, or visit famous Mount Panorama.

On the way to Orange drop into the picturesque village of Millthorpe (and near Mudgee you’ll find the equally fascinating Hill End and Sofala).

Both Orange and Mudgee are becoming famous for their wine and food; both lie in some of New South Wales’s prettiest countryside.

While Parkes isn’t just the home of the famous radio telescope which starred in The Dish, it has an annual Elvis Festival!

There are frequent coach services, daily flights from Sydney with QantasLink, Regional Express and Air Link, and daily rail services from Sydney with CountryLink XPT.
